Tenses adalah perubahan kata kerja dalam bahasa Inggris sesuai dengan waktu. Dalam bahasa Indonesia tidak dikenal adanya perubahan kata kerja yang dipengaruhi waktu, hal ini berbeda dengan tata bahasa Inggris. Tenses dibagi menjadi Present (masa sekarang), Past (masa lampau) dan Future (masa  yang akan datang).

Simple Present Tense

Simple Present Tense digunakan untuk menyatakan kegiatan yang berulang atau rutinitas, fakta dan peristiwa yang terjadi di masa sekarang.

Simple Past Tense

Simple past tense digunakan untuk menyatakan peristiwa yang terjadi di masa lalu.

Simple future tense digunakan untuk menyatakan peristiwa yang akan terjadi di masa mendatang.

Present continuous tense digunakan untuk menyatakan yang sedang berlangsung atau terjadi saat ini.

Present perfect tense digunakan untuk menyatakan suatu peristiwa yang dimulai di masa lampau dan telah selesai dilakukan pada waktu sebelum sekarang.

present perfect tense menggunakan auxiliary verb yaitu “have/ has”.

Present perfect continuous tense digunakan untuk menyatakan suatu peristiwa yang telah dikerjakan di masa lampau atau dimulai di masa lampau dan masih berlangsung di masa sekarang.

Past continuous tense digunakan untuk menyatakan suatu peristiwa yang terjadi dengan lama waktu tertentu yang sedang terjadi dan telah usai di masa lampau.
